Many of you may have noticed in the last 9 months that a new roof has been installed on the Littleton Town Gazebo at Fay Park. This long overdue thank-you goes out to Sean Green, owner of Superior Roofing and American Disposal and Littleton Resident, and Littleton Lumber for the labor, supplies, and disposal services donated for the much-needed repair.

The Littleton Police Department got involved in the repair efforts through a request by a resident Louis Bartkus, who was the driving force behind the construction of the Town Gazebo some 15 years ago. There were no funds available for the replacement of the leaking and rotted roof, however the repairs had to be made. When the call went out for the resources for labor and materials Superior Roofing and Littleton Lumber teamed up to accomplish the community project in an example of true "Littleton Business Partnership". As a result the entire old roof was stripped for the structure, disposed of, and replaced with new plywood, shingles, and trim boards, which will last for the next 30 years.

On behalf of those that enjoy the Littleton Town Gazebo I would like to thank our community supporters, Superior Roofing, American Disposal, and Littleton Lumber for their efforts in preserving this town structure and point of community activity.

Over the course of more than 25 years of home ownership, we have had many occasions to contract with professionals to keep our home in top condition. Some experiences were more difficult or stressful than they should have been. For this reason, we put off replacing our aging roof until it was too late and winter leaks ruined a ceiling.

Our roof is large and we needed to have 2 layers removed, so we knew that it was not going to be inexpensive. We also knew that we did not want to have to do it again for many years, so we concentrated on finding the best value. For us, that meant quality materials and first-rate workmanship for a reasonable price. Before contacting anyone, we did our homework and investigated the latest innovations in roofing materials and proper installation techniques so we could be better prepared for the anticipated sales pitches. We even went to the Home Show in Boston to investigate reputable contractors and, most importantly, we asked relatives and friends for their recommendations.

My brother and sister-in-law told us that they, and several of their neighbors, contracted with Superior Roofing and they could not have been more pleased with their experience. They strongly encouraged us to include Superior Roofing in our plan for 3 bids.

Bob Talbot, Superior's Sales Manager, actually went up on the roof to assess its condition and measure the job. He then carefully explained how they would perform the work and patiently answered all of our questions. No sales pressure…no recommendations for unnecessary upgrades…no shrugs in place of answers…and no bull; just a proposal for quality shingles with good looks and long life, hand nailing to prevent shingle damage that reduces life, careful attention to underlayment and drip edging to prevent ice dams in winter, a full ridge vent to increase roof life and a plan for protecting a rather large, fragile screen porch roof during the work. Bob even predicted, correctly as it turned out, the color that we would ultimately choose to best enhance our home's appearance. After our meeting with Bob, and a few follow-up telephone calls, we were just going through the motions for the other bids because we knew that we found our roofing contractor.

All of the work was conducted in a timely manner and was highly coordinated from beginning to end. Tim, our project coordinator, willingly planned the work around our schedules. Roger, one of their mobile foremen, arrived before the work crew to double check the roof size, shingle type, color, etc. He took samples for recycling analysis and explained upcoming events, answered our questions and returned several times to check on progress. The first team to arrive prepared the chimneys and installed the flashing. The main crew then arrived and began the process of protecting our property. Soon after they started to remove the old roof, the dumpster and roofing materials arrived. Considerable progress was evident by the end of the first day as the crew carefully protected the unfinished areas for the overnight hours. The next day was a long one as the crew completed the roof, installed the ridge vents, and cleaned the property until it was so spotless that we actually canceled our landscaper's spring cleanup service.

Roofing is, without doubt, strenuous work. It was very clear that our roofing crew, led by Tatu, was highly trained and motivated. Everyone knew their respective job and they worked as a real team. Tatu Heverton and every member of the crew were incredible workers, respectful of our property, and a credit to your company.

We are very pleased with our new roof and will wholeheartedly recommend your company to anyone looking for a first-rate job. The job was professional and stress free from start to finish and we got exactly what we were hoping for…a "superior roof."

THE NEW ROOF
(article appearing in _____________ Church newsletter, March 2004)

Early in October, it was determined that the water damage seen in the sanctuary and hospitality areas was being caused by roofing defects. An “on the roof” examination by two different roofing firms pointed out many areas of deficiencies. Among these were poor workmanship done when roofing the addition several years ago as well as worn out and defective shingles on the existing roof. During these inspections, it was also noted that the church siding was in need of repair and paint. It was determined that maintaining and protecting the church property was a high priority.

Superior Roofing Industries, Inc. of Littleton was selected as the roofer. Superior’s reputation and attention to detail were significant in their selection. A high quality industrial grade shingle was selected. Superior obtained a lifetime warranty on the roofing material and provided a 12-year full guaranty on their labor. All of the existing gutters were replaced with 6-inch commercial gutters and downspouts. Roofing work began in November and was completed in December. Superior’s work was as good as their reputation. The work was done promptly with excellent workmanship. Jim Coleman personally delivered payment and a heartfelt thanks for work well done.

Re: Replacing the shingles on my house

It’s not often that I have a reason to sit down and write a thank you note to a contractor for a job well done. Rather, it's the latter for performance that was not up to par.

My experience from the start was impressive. Your sales representative, Chris Algers, was accommodating to my requests, and all the duties to be performed were spelled out clearly on the contract. Most importantly, those line items to be performed were followed through completely to my satisfaction.

What floored me was the reattaching of downspouts that were not even attached when the job was started. Our biggest concern was the roofing nails. We heard horror stories from neighbors that we'd be picking up nails nine years later! Well,, I have not found that to be the case dealing with Superior Roofing. As stated in the contract, they used a 2 or 3 foot magnet that they roll around the yard. But, after they used the magnet, I saw, firsthand, a laborer walk around the house looking for any nails that were missed by the magnet.

I just wanted you to know the type of crew members that are representing your company place the customers’ concerns first. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone that they call Superior Roofing when it's time to replace their roofing shingles.
